The goal of fault management is to detect, log, notify users of, and (to the extent possible) automatically fix network problems to keep the network running effectively. Network sevices are capable of alerting management stations when a fault occurs on the network.

The goal of configuration management is to monitor network and system configuration information so the effects on network operation of various versions of hardware and software
elements can be tracked and managed.

3. Performance Management

Performance management provides detailed view of traffic on the network, with the goal being the ability to collect, store and present data from network devices. Different performance metrics are collected at the interface, device and protocol.

4. Security Management

Security management enables companies control access to network resources according to their security policy. An authentication/authorization process is required for employees to have access to a secure web portal for viewing the management information gathered.

5. Accounting Management

Accounting management is the process used to measure network utilization parameters. Trended over time, this information is used to verify that terms and conditions are being honored within the SLA.
